How do you explain it? You don't. You accept it.

A friend of mine asked tonight how you explain to the average guy on the street that certain horse trainers can just blatantly cheat, right in plain view, and nobody really cares or makes an effort to stop them?
My answer was simple. It's just the way it is, and you can't stop them because the will is not there and the cheaters run the game. That is fact. You would have to be a martyr to try and stop them.
But the best way to explain it is to use the news of the day.
Doug Ford has said he is running for the leadership of the Ontario PC party. This is the same Doug Ford who is the brother of the now departed Rob Ford, our former crack using, lying, vile mayor. If you ever watched them together, Doug is every bit as vile as his brother was, only he is a bit slicker at it than Rob was. Neither has or had any talent, skill, knowlege or ability to run a government. Both basically have money because their father built a business they could not screw up.
Why is Doug Ford running for the leadership? Well, in the last week, the leader of that party had to step down because he is being accused of being a sexual harasser, and he was no upstanding human before any of that came out. Today, on top of that, the party leadership had to push out another top brass person because he too is being accused of sexually harassing women.
There was some hope the PC's would win the election and displace the Liberals, who are universally thought of around here as either total criminals or totally incompetent, and for most of us, both of those things.
Now, there is no hope. The PC's are handing the election to them on a silver platter, gift wrapped by their incompetence, just as they did last time. What to do? There are no options really to do anything. They all suck. Sounds a lot like saying vote Trump or Hilary. Either way you lose with the only options out there.
On top of that, recently I got my car insurance for the coming year. Now, here is the deal. I have been driving for 37 years, and have never put in any claim of any kind, had no accidents, no violations on my record. Neither has my wife. Does that matter? No.
It goes up every year, and every year, they cover less. They do this with the blessing of the Government, who makes laws to see that they can. You could say go shopping for a better price. We did that. There is no better price. They are all in it together and its just a waste of time to try and beat them at it.
It's the same with horse racing. The cheaters rule, and those that are on the other side feel helpless to stop them. For good reason. They are. So, you accept that the government is crooked and rigged, you accept that horse racing has an element you can't remove, and the will is not there to do it anyway, and that you will pay more every year for insurance and get less coverage no matter how good a driver you are.
You don't explain any of these things with logic and valid arguments. You accept that they have won the battle, and make the best of it with whatever you want to do.
I bet. I work around the races where the cheaters are going to win. That is all I can do. I can't do anything about the government, because its the system that's broken and there are no options to fix it. I pay my insurance and accept that I have to be loan sharked into a high rate because there is nothing that can be done about it.
I accept the realities of life. Cheating at horse racing is a reality of life. That is the only explanation that is out there.
