Do The Fucking Math!

Because I am trying to lose weight and I have some questionable eating habits, I have taken to being more creative about it. I can't stop myself from indulging, in things like Potato Chips and Soda Pop, but I can try to manage it. One way is to only buy two bags of chips a week instead of four.
Another way is to start drinking more Coke Zero and still getting to drink pop without the large amount of calories that go with regular pop. Because of this, it has worked. I am slimmer and lighter and basically these are the only significant changes I have made.
So, lately, I have been buying a lot of Coke, but Coke Zero. I try to wait for it to come on sale, and when it is, I buy larger amounts of it. I was just raised that way to try and save where I can.
Being on sale means that it is 3 bottles of 2 Litres for 5 bucks. Normally, when not on sale, it is $2.99 for 2 litres. If you do the math, that is a savings of 4 dollars. Since I drink about 6 litres a week, that means over the course of a year I would and do save about 200 bucks doing this. Coke is not perishable, so I can buy large amounts and just wait for the next sale, which is exactly what I do.
Now, this week, Coke was still on sale, but it wasn't 3 for 5 bucks. It was 1 bottle for $1.67. Of course, I had to think about that...for a freaking second. If you do the fucking math, you will note that 3 for 5 bucks is 1 for $1.666. So, in essence by not buying it now and waiting for the 3 for 5 bucks sale to come back on, you are saving ...ummm....NOTHING. I suppose you are saving one penny for every 3 you buy.
So, you would think that our highly educated Canadian consumers would realize this and be buying it at the same furious rate as they do when it is 3 for 5 bucks. And.....you would be wrong. They were not.
In this case, a penny saved is a penny earned. Maybe they can save those pennies and go back and take a course in basic math.
Or. Not.

  1. OMG..That is a lot of calculation, Mark!!
    Let me suggest you something:
    1. If you find it difficult to give up Coke and chips, limit your portion size. You have already mentioned that you buy bigger bottles, and not the cans. So the next time you pour yourself some Coke in a glass, try to make the 'helping' a little (say, about 2 sips) smaller than normal. Once you get used to that quantity, you can further reduce it and bring it down to the minimum you REQUIRE to keep yourself going! The same holds good for chips also.
    2. Diet Coke contains artificial sweeteners which are very very harmful. They do help you cut down on calorie intake but could causes you serious problems later like hormonal imbalances, premature hair loss, weaker gums and teeth & problems with your bones and joints- to name just a few. Try to avoid it as far as possible. Have the regular coke, if you must- have lesser of it.
    Hope that helps. :)
    Love to read u!
