10 Random Thoughts on the Rob Ford thing.

1. If you comment in public about how much pussy you get to eat at home you likely will not be getting that anymore.

2. Admitting you smoked crack cocaine at a party with gang bangers because you were too drunk to know better is very much like saying you can't stop the car because you forgot that the brakes aren't working when you got in the car.

3. If you don't like the spotlight on you when you have issues, don't take a job that requires you to be in the spotlight.

4. Never take advice from your family when they are at best as dumb as you and you are already a confirmed dumbass.

5. Admitting you have driven drunk and saying that is okay because everyone else does it, even though everyone else doesn't do it, is like saying that it is okay to jump off the cliff because other idiots do it.

6. If you tell people you will lower their taxes, you can pretty much do almost anything and stay in power. Even smoke crack, eat other women's pussy or get a blow job at your desk by your assistant. But you can't lie about it. If you lie about it, they think you are also lying about lowering the taxes. That is the biggest no-no.

7. The more you talk about how you aren't guilty, the more people think you are.

8. If you don't tell the truth when you have the chance, no one will believe you later even if you start telling the truth.

9. Nobody has sympathy for someone who digs their own hole and refuses to take a helping hand out of that hole but insists on trying to bite the hand that feeds it.

10. If you were a drug using, publicly drunk, bullying, womanizing, loudmouth jackass before you got elected, you won't suddenly stop being that way once you are elected.

10 Random Thoughts

1. Somebody should write a book called Shades of 50 and a bit grey. The sex would be interesting, that's for sure. Might be some pills involved. No, for sure there would be pills involved.

2. Premature evacuation--A guy who leaves too fast after the sex is over.

3. People are a lot braver with other peoples money.

4.There is a reason why you can't push a square peg into a round hole. Because it doesn't fit. Either make the hole square, or wait for the peg to become round. Or, fail.

5. The best way to sink a ship is to let the incompetent captain sink it themselves.

6. When someone says "we will agree to disagree" what they really mean most of the time is that "I am right and you are wrong and I don't want to discuss it with you anymore."

7. I am not out to change the world. I just want people who don't understand it to understand it better.

8. Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor is very annoying. The only reason I would want to be on the island is to sneak up behind him and club him unconscious with a 2 by 4. Then yell out "the tribe has spoken", now it is time for you to shut up.

9. Stupid people will say stupid things. Because they are stupid. It is their duty to manifest their own destiny. Don't get in their way.

10.Your relation ship sailed on that white horse into the forest where you can't see the trees.

Some Random Thoughts on the Shutdown/Debt Ceiling fiasco

1. The world is rejoicing. The worlds lenders, bankers, financiers and all the rest don't want the U.S. to stop borrowing from them. They just want them to keep borrowing more and keep paying them interest. Just like the credit card companies. They don't want you to pay your balance. They don't make money that way. They want you to always be able to pay the minimum and keep increasing the hole. Mission accomplished. They would be happy if we were in debt to them for infinity.

2. Say what you will about Obama, but he just outgamed the Republicans...again. He gave up nothing, got everything he wanted, looks like the hero while he has done nothing to lower the debt. Meanwhile, the Republicans look like the bad guys, because they shutdown the government and almost caused another depression. Good strategy play there. In reality, they are both huge failures, but one is perceived that way, and one is not.

3. They can keep kicking the can down the road for years, probably the rest of my life, but in reality, all they are doing is taking more out of our pockets every time they do it. More interest payments mean less going to actual services and benefits. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class moves closer to the poor ledger.

4. Based on the reaction of the world, and the rest of anyone that knows what is at stake for real this time, it is clear that no matter what happens, the U.S. will never be allowed to default on its debt. Because they know that, they are not worried that the credit tap will ever be turned off. Despite being the borrower, they hold all the cards and will never be allowed to fold. The world simply cannot exist as we know it if that happens. So it wont. They are the rich kids that the parents will never give the tough love to.

5. People have been clamoring for a third party alternative for years now. Now, you've got it. The Tea Party are going to be that third party, and I suspect there will be at least a 4th and 5th one also. It is not going to be as simple as Republicans and Democrats from this point forward. Those days are over. That is probably a good thing, but in the short term, there is major chaos ahead.

6. We are in the early stages of the dissolving of what we now know of as the United States. I don't think we will see Civil War, but the couple is breaking up and they are each going to take their shit and move out. Their is no marriage counsellor that can fix this. The bad blood is way too deep. It is every man and woman for themselves and the one with the better shark lawyer is likely the winner.

7. The fact that the government could actually be shutdown and the debt default come as close as it did tells that the system is so broken only a complete overhaul can save it now. The 1776 model was just that, a 1776 model and is not relevant to our current reality.

Some Random Thoughts on Detroit.

I intend to do a long essay on the Detroit situation, but that will likely take until the end of the week, at the earliest. In the meantime, here are some random thoughts about it that I am playing with in my head.

1. When you are really a one industry town, you are 100% susceptible to the boom and bust theory that plays out at some point. No matter how big you are.

2. Detroit has pretty much been considered the most dangerous city in America for a long time by most Canadians, and tourists from other countries, and many within America, and many who live just outside Detroit. When you get a reputation like that, your city is basically dead.

3. When mostly uneducated workers are making 30 to 40 dollars an hour, as most were in the heyday of Motor City, if those jobs go away, due to whatever factor, you have the recipe for a slum. And disaster. You now have more than half of Detroit's population who are not employable above the poverty line. How do you fix that? I don't know, but it doesn't look good for this generation.

4. I find it shocking and an embarrassment that the President of The United States found time to comment about one murder in Florida, but has not found any time to speak about a major city going bankrupt, and what he plans to do to stop it, fix it or deal with it.

5. White flight is real and a very serious issue for America, which threatens to turn it right back into a segregated society again, even though nobody will call it that. When that completely plays out, the level of violence and crime we see now will only be a fraction of what we can expect.

6. Cities are not people or businesses. They cannot go bankrupt. Not if you want the financial system to support infrastructure building and repair, as it does now. You can't renege on your bonds. It simply breaks the system. There has to be another solution.

7. Funding pension plans that wont come to full fruition for another 40 years based on current economic activity that must continue to make the books balance is just plain insanity. If you can't pay that portion now, then you never will be able to pay it.

8. The shocking reality is that while it is tragic that Zimmerman shot Martin in Florida, if this Detroit thing is not solved very quickly, there will be thousands of these types of shootings in Detroit and places like them that are on the brink of becoming just like Detroit.

9.  I don't know if Rick Snyder has the solution. But he is right. You can't keep kicking the can down to the next guy forever. Somebody is going to get stuck with the hot potato at some point. That point is now. It probably was about 10 years ago, but somehow it got kicked a bit longer and now the hot potato is a grenade.

10. Even though he doesn't want to do it, and really shouldn't, the President will have no choice but to bail out Detroit. Because if a city like that goes down, then the American dream is officially dead. And nobody wants that on their watch. The only question is what type of conditions he is going to add to the money when he does it. Once you bail out banks, and car companies, and mortgage lenders, then you have opened the floodgate. You can't say no once you have begun to say yes.

Some Random Thoughts on Mad Men

1. No straight man would ever be able to resist Joan Harris. Not one. I don't care what they say. Even gay men probably wouldn't, or straight women.

2. Don Draper is the best character to come along since I don't know when. They will be talking about him for the rest of time.

3. They say that men and some women were really as sexually promiscuous as they portray them in Mad Men. Maybe in New York City, but not anywhere I ever lived or knew of.

4. Roger Sterling is really Don Draper in 20 years if Draper doesn't clean up his act. Bob Benson is a Don Draper wannabe, and Pete Campbell knows it. It is always good to keep the pretenders around. When they fall flat on their face, you look better. Same reason Don kept Pete around.

5. When you are Don Draper,  you have "it". That essence. And everyone wants a piece of it. Until they have taken all you have to give and you have no more left. It can be very exhausting. So, you learn to take from others, in Don Drapers case, from women. That is partly the reason that Don is a taker.

6. People say Don Draper uses women for sex. Actually, it is the other way around. They use him for sex. He uses them for validation, and even he knows that doesn't work.

7. When you grow up in a whorehouse, you start to think of all women as whores, no matter how much they show you they are not. It is a scar that never heals within you.

8. Don Draper learned what all guys learn when he was young. There can only be one rooster in the hen house, and if you try to take his hens, he will try to kill you. The key for some is to kill the head rooster and become him. The hens only care who is the head rooster, not which one is.

9. Draper shows very infrequent bits of integrity, but for the most part, he has none. He is a user, even though he seems to not want to be one. Probably because, for the most part, it has worked out in his favor. People go with what works, not what seems right, most of the time.

10. You think "how could someone fall for the things they came up with" back in those days? Until you realize that people who shop at Walmart are convinced they are saving money. Then you realize why Don Draper makes the big bucks. He could sell cat food to a dog and make them think they are lucky they are allowed to buy it.

11. AMC has come up with Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead and a few others in the last 7 years. In that time, the networks have given us Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Dancing With The Stars. Need I say more about why very few people bother with network television anymore?

12. I think that one of the greatest lessons of Mad Men is that no matter how great someones life looks on the outside, on the inside, in their own skin, it isn't what anywhere near as good, no matter the facade they put up. That is probably why those people are so good at selling the lie to us. They live it.

13. A big part of the allure of the show is that although some of us were very young during the time period portrayed, we remember what it was like and this show completely captures that. Right on the money. It is like watching our own home movies.

14. Since Don is referred to by his stepmother as a "whore child" , if he thinks of all women as whores, then they can never be better than him, thereby boosting his fragile ego. A lot of us seek to do this, unknowingly, in the way we think of and refer to people we know.

15. Much of the shows drama is based on the concept of taking risks only when you know the other person has as much or more to lose as you do if it goes sour or ends. The ones who seem to employ this strategy on the show end up the winners and the ones who don't play that game end up the losers.

16. Even though I have seen it countless times, and could skip over it, I always watch the opening theme and credits intently. It sets the tone for the vibe of the show. Like the start of a James Bond movie does. It leads you exactly where you want to be to take in what is coming next.

17. If you are going to play a game of chicken, you need to know two things. First, that the other person knows they have to bail. And two, that they are going to bail when it is time to bail. Having the upper hand doesn't matter if the other person doesn't think they have anything to lose anymore.

18. People will do just about anything for money, no matter what they say about their high moral standard. The higher the morals, the more cash you have to offer them.

19. Sex is a much bigger vice than any other vice. Because the other things are things we don't need while sex we need, even if we aren't addicted to it. So, even when healthy, you can't abstain in a healthy way. As much as Don Draper appears to want to be loyal, he knows, and we know, that he can't.

20. Your friend today can be your enemy tomorrow.  And vice versa.

Some Random Thoughts

1. I think the Nigerian scammer Uncle people might increase their success rate if they simply modified the inheritance amount. The minute I see 14 million, I check out. Just sayin. Put at least some effort into it. You might even get a reply from me if you knock it down to 800,000.

2. I wonder if the UPS truck driving guy ever gets splashed by a huge puddle by a driver going the other way. I don't know about you, but that open door on the drivers side is a deterrent to me ever taking that job.

3. Enough already with the Egypt president-get rid of him, don't get rid of him- stuff. I really don't give a crap. If you want to protest about it, go back to your own country and do it there. The citizens of this country don't care at all.

4. I think the time has come to say the Gay Pride parade is completely counterproductive to the Gay Rights movement. Being that same sex marriage and benefits is now pretty much the standard, trying to stand out as different and way out there goes against the idea that gay people are just like anyone else--except that they have sexual desire for the same sex.

5.  It is still mind boggling to me that there was a time when very educated and cultured people believed that slavery was acceptable and their god given right to have. It just goes to show, education and money don't mean that you will think and act like a good person with real moral values.

6. Seems to me that we would be much better off if we worked with Mother Nature wants to give us instead of trying to take what she doesn't want us to have.

7. I don't care if new immigrants know the names of dead Prime Ministers, or any other person, or what the actual citizenship test is these days, but I would be satisfied if they just took them to the mall and made them park their car within a minute when most can do it in 10 seconds. If they can't, send them back.

8. Note to players leaving a team. If you say horrible things about them on the way out the door, many teams wont touch you, no matter how much talent you may have. Just shut it and play the game.

9. Lincoln was a pretty good, but not great movie, but Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actors I have ever seen. His performance in that movie is one for the ages. It was really like watching Lincoln reincarnated.

10.  If you don't invest some of the profits you make today in your future, you likely wont have a future.

10 Random Thoughts

2. No matter how well you think you know someone, you never really know what is going on in their head.

3. Before you ask for help make sure you want it. Once you burn that bridge you don't get to go back.

4. Maybe we should stop complaining that people are gaming the system and just change the system so they can't game it.

5. It takes a real idiot, a true moron, to make you see how stupid you can be sometimes. In that way, morons are valuable.

6. If you don't value people then people will not value you. And what are you left with? Nothing of value. That is what you are left with.

7. Someone who was important and relevant to your life when you were at a different stage in your life might not be anymore. You are not throwing away what you had, you are realizing you had it and now it doesn't exist anymore.

8. Crazy people always think that the other people are crazy. That is the nature of crazy people.

9. Whenever I read an article and they refer to a "chief economist" as their source for making their argument...I know to do the exact opposite of what that expert is saying. The old saying is accurate. Experts are really only good at being experts.

10. Saw a guy crossing a crosswalk tonight with his head down, texting and not paying attention to the road. He almost got killed. In my book..good riddance. If he can't wait until he gets to the other side, then it is Darwinism in action if you asked me.

4. I don't like to sell. I am not that good at it. So I don't do it. If you are not funny, don't try to be funny. It's okay. You don't have to be. Be who you are, not who you wish you would be because others are that way.

5. I'm not a joker. I just play one on Facebook.

6. You are somebody's reason to masturbate. You are also somebody's reason to commit hopefully justifiable homicide.

7. When I say I am going bra-less for the day it doesn't seem to carry the same weight as when a woman says it.

8. The other day,  my friend said I was too negative and that the glass is always half full.  I took his glass, drank the fluid and said. "I guess we don't have to argue about that anymore?"

9. Here is what I know for sure.
If you respond to stupid people then YOU are actually the stupid one. They are stupid and you are wasting YOUR time on them.

10. Note to some men:
I'm not saying you have a bad body. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with your body if you have a few pounds and a stomach. I am saying:
Put your shirt back on and stop posting those pics on Facebook. You aren't a guy from Magic Mike and you are grossing all of us out.
